Hondurans all over the country and indeed the world began their annual celebration of Honduras’s independence month by celebrating Flag Day.
Flag Day is a special day of patriotism for many Hondurans all over the world where they remember their roots and some rekindle a love for their birthplace or the birthplace of their parents. It’s important to many that this day be treated with respect and taken seriously.
Today’s celebration of the day begins a countdown towards the 196th anniversary of Central American Independence which was declared on September 15th 1821. Be sure to acknowledge this very special day with your friends and family from Honduras or your neighbors and countrymen.
Honduras’s flag was adopted in 1866, and was based off of the flag of the Federal Republic Of Central America, but changed in 1866 when the stars were placed in the center. It’s meant to be symbolic of the five nations of the former Federal Republic and eventually the hope that the nations can unite once again in the future.
